Current situation of air pollution

Air pollution in China has become one of the most serious environmental problems. The inhalable particles in many parts of mainland China especially in the north are very commonly seen. Sulfur dioxide pollution is one of the main pollutants as well.
Northwest region is suffering from serious dust pollution. The particulate matters in the north often cause haze in a wide range.
In the south, the emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide are also very large due to acidic soil, and the acid rain covers an area of almost a third of the land.

Current situation of air pollution in China

According to the report of Environmental Analysis of PRC Processing to Environmentally Sustainable Future, among the largest 500 cities in China,
only less than 1% cities meet the recommend of standard of WHO in air quality;
Among the 10 world's most polluted cities, 7 cities are in China. The report was completed by working group composed of experts in environment
at home and abroad and the professional team from Asian Development Bank.

Air is mixture made up of a certain proportion of nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, water vapor and solid impurity particles. With the development of China's modern industry and transportation, more substances are being emitted into the atmosphere with more complex content, which cause dramatic changes in the atmospheric composition.
